Exploring Career Pathways

Toby, a 20-year-old from the Glenorchy community, came into the Jobs Hub accompanied by the Glenorchy City Council Community Team to chat about employment opportunities. He was eager to find a career where he could learn valuable, transferable skills and build a strong foundation for his future.

During in-depth discussions with Youth Coach Monique, they explored a range of career options. When Monique mentioned a fully funded Certificate II in Security Operations with Athena Training Academy, Toby was immediately interested. Recognising it as a chance to gain qualifications in a growing industry, he signed up straight away.

Taking the First Step

Toby threw himself into the training, successfully completing the course and gaining the knowledge and credentials needed to enter the security industry. Once his training was finished, he returned to the Jobs Hub to work with Monique on creating a professional resume tailored to security roles.

Proactive and Determined

With his new resume in hand, Toby decided to be proactive. He approached the security guards stationed outside Glenorchy City Council, asking for advice on how to get started in the industry. They encouraged him to take his resume directly to a local security company and introduce himself in person. Toby didn’t hesitate — he went straight there the very same day.

Securing the Job

Toby’s initiative and determination paid off. The security company was impressed by his approach, and before long, he was offered a position as a security officer. Today, Toby is enjoying his new role, gaining practical experience, and developing the professional skills that will serve him well throughout his career.
