Youth Coach Helps GJH Participant Launch a Promising Career in Advanced Manufacturing

Overcoming Barriers with Personalised Support

Sam*, a young jobseeker from the Glenorchy community, faced numerous challenges on his path to employment. Like many young people, he struggled with motivation, job preparedness, and some mental health hurdles. That’s where Youth Coach Monique stepped in. Through one-on-one sessions, Monique worked closely with Sam to identify his barriers, build his confidence, and develop the skills he needed to take the next step.

Seizing New Opportunities

With renewed motivation, Sam attended an industry information session hosted by Glenorchy Jobs Hub. The session featured a leading employer from the local manufacturing sector, giving Sam valuable insights into the industry and what employers are looking for. He took the initiative to speak directly with the operations manager and site foreman, expressing his interest in gaining hands-on experience.

From Work Experience to Apprenticeship

Sam’s enthusiasm and preparation paid off. He was invited to tour the workshop and offered a two-week work experience placement. During this time, Sam impressed the team with his positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic. His efforts were rewarded with an offer of ongoing employment and the exciting opportunity to transition into an apprenticeship.
