Personalised care and support Helps Ellie* Step into Work !
At Glenorchy Jobs Hub, we celebrate local young people who work hard to overcome challenges and take meaningful steps toward their career goals. Ellie’s journey is a powerful example of how persistence, encouragement, and targeted support can open doors to opportunity.
Building Confidence
Youth Coach Monique first met Ellie through a school psychologist at her local high school. At the time, Ellie was extremely shy, avoided eye contact, and found conversation difficult. While she was receiving interview opportunities, nerves often stopped her from attending.
Monique worked closely with Ellie on interview preparation, encouraging her to replace “I don’t know” with short, confident responses. Over time, Ellie began to believe in her ability to succeed.
In addition to seeking work, Ellie decided to continue her education at an alternative school for Years 11 and 12, where she could access specialised learning support and stay on track toward her goals.
Taking the Leap
One morning, Monique ran into Ellie, who excitedly shared she had an interview that day with Banjo’s Bakery Cafe — and this time, she was going. Later, Ellie sent through the news: she got the job!
On the Job
Now established in her role, Ellie is learning new skills, gaining workplace experience, and building her confidence every day. Monique visits during shifts to check in, encourage, and celebrate her progress.
A Bright Path Ahead
Ellie’s story shows how building confidence one step at a time can lead to significant achievements. With persistence, tailored support, and the courage to seize opportunities, she has taken a strong first step into the workforce — and her journey is only just beginning.
