Youth Coach Supports Young Jobseeker to Land First Job with Hungry Jack’s
The team at GJH are are proud to support local jobseekers like Grace*, whose courage and determination—combined with tailored support—helped her take a big step towards obtaining her first job.
Navigating Anxiety with Encouragement and Care
When Grace first visited the Hub, she was accompanied by her support worker, as social anxiety made new situations especially challenging. She confided in Youth Coach Monique about her barriers around meeting new people and applying for jobs on her own. Despite this, Grace shared her strong desire to find her first job, and her openness to different opportunities stood out.
Monique worked with Grace to register her with the Hub and reviewed her resume, ensuring it reflected her strengths as a young person with no prior work experience. When Monique mentioned an upcoming Fast Food Services Industry Session, Grace expressed interest and committed to attending.
Making the Most of Industry Connections
At the session, which included representation from Hungry Jack’s, Monique introduced Grace directly to the manager of the store. Encouraged by the warm introduction, Grace introduced herself and shared her interest in applying for a job at Hungry Jacks.
Following the session, Grace returned to the Hub to draft a cover letter with Monique’s support. Together, they completed the online application. To strengthen her chances, Monique followed up with the Hungry Jack’s manager, reminding him of their conversation and Grace’s application.
Preparation Pays Off
Grace was soon invited to attend an interview. In the lead-up, she worked closely with Monique to prepare. On the day, Grace presented herself confidently and made a great impression.
The outcome? A successful job offer— Grace secured her very first job!
Partnerships That Make a Difference
This success story was made possible through strong collaboration between Glenorchy Jobs Hub and Hungry Jack’s, facilitated by the Hub’s Business Relationships Partner, Leon. This partnership created a valuable bridge between employer and jobseeker, giving Grace the confidence and platform to shine.
Grace’s journey is a powerful reminder of how the right support and meaningful employer connections can empower young people to achieve their goals.
