Research suggests that between 60-80% of jobs are secured outside of advertised vacancies in Australia. This means that for every 10 jobs actively advertised there are potentially 8 jobs on the market that are not advertised. This is called 'the hidden job market' and it is a very important source of employment opportunities for jobseekers.

Often your friends, family and colleagues will be your best resource in finding jobs in the hidden market. Alongside this, professional networks, industry groups and training bodies can be an excellent way of finding out about opportunities that are not "traditionally" advertised.

To ensure you are putting your best foot forward in accessing these opportunities, it is important to have your marketing documents (resumes, applications etc) up-to-date, and never be afraid to ask for help when it comes self-promotion.
